BEIJING, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday called on the United States to "walk the walk" on easing restrictions on U.S. companies' sales to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei.

Spokesman Geng Shuang's remarks came after U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he did not want the United States to do business with China's Huawei.

The economic and trade cooperation between Chinese and U.S. companies are mutually beneficial, said Geng.

The U.S. side has promised that it would permit U.S. companies to continue to provide goods to Huawei when the two heads of state met at the G20 summit in Osaka this June, Geng said, urging the United States to fulfill its promise.

"When and how the U.S. side will fulfill its promise will impact the reputation and credibility of the United States," Geng told a routine press briefing, adding that "the world is watching."

"We hope the U.S. side will walk the walk, and stop the unreasonable suppression and sanctions on Huawei and other Chinese companies," the spokesman said, urging the United States to treat Chinese companies in a fair, just and non-discriminatory manner.

The U.S. side should do more to benefit the stable growth of China-U.S. economic and trade cooperation rather than harm it, said Geng.

As for the China-U.S. trade negotiation, the spokesman said that China's stance is consistent and clear.

He called on the United States to work with China to implement the consensus reached by the two presidents in Osaka, to seek a mutually acceptable solution through dialogue and consultation based on equality and mutual respect.

The two sides are keeping in touch, according to Geng.
