KABUL, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 59 development projects have been completed and put into operation in Chawkay district of eastern Afghanistan's Kunar province, the official media Bakhtar reported Saturday.
The projects, worth over 97 million afghanis (over 1.4 million U.S. dollars), include ural roads, irrigation canals, water supply networks, and retaining walls, aimed at improving infrastructure, facilitating transportation, and supporting agricultural activities in the region, the report said.
Local residents welcomed the initiatives, saying that better roads and irrigation systems would make it easier to transport their products and increase agricultural production, the report added.
In recent years, the Afghan government and development partners have implemented a series of infrastructure projects across rural areas to enhance basic services, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development. ■
