MINSK, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that the conflict in Ukraine will eventually end in peace, but emphasized that an early resolution is crucial to prevent further loss of life.

In an interview with the American Newsmax TV, Lukashenko expressed strong concerns about the humanitarian cost of prolonged fighting, noting the high number of casualties and severely wounded individuals returning from the front lines. The interview took place recently and was published on the Belarusian president's website on Wednesday.

The Belarusian leader pointed out that a peaceful resolution depends on multiple parties, not just the efforts of a single country, noting that the U.S. president alone cannot resolve the conflict, which directly involves Russia, Ukraine, and neighboring states like Belarus.

Lukashenko underscored that a quick agreement would be unlikely. He reiterated that the key to peace talks is first establishing a complete ceasefire to ensure no side uses the pause to rearm.

He warned that continued escalation could lead to broader mobilization and even a global conflict and urged all sides to seize the current opportunity for negotiation. Strong guarantees were needed to ensure a lasting peace.

Lukashenko called on external actors to avoid prolonging the war and instead focus on a sustainable diplomatic solution. ■
