NEW YORK, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- The United States has suspended implementation of a technology cooperation deal with Britain inked in September, reports said on Tuesday.

The U.S. side has become increasingly frustrated with Britain's approach to digital regulation, food standards and rules on industrial goods, the Financial Times and Reuters reported.

"In line with Section III of the U.S.-U.K. Technology Prosperity Deal, we hope to resume work with the United Kingdom once the U.K. has made substantial progress in implementing its commitments under the Economic Prosperity Deal," said Michael Kratsios, head of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, in a post on X on Tuesday.

In May, the two countries signed an economic prosperity deal, marking the first trade deal reached by the Donald Trump administration following its announcement of sweeping tariffs in early April.

However, British officials also confirmed that the United States has paused implementation of the tech deal, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

Despite this, a spokesperson for British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that both sides remain engaged in active conversations.

"We look forward to continuing our productive collaboration across AI, quantum, nuclear, and other critical technology areas under the Deal," said Kratsios.

Britain and the United States agreed on the multi-billion-dollar tech deal during U.S. President Donald Trump's state visit to Britain in September. The non-binding tech deal aims to accelerate AI research for new drugs, faster treatments and better cancer care, while also supporting civil nuclear projects. ■
