NEW YORK, April 1 (Xinhua) -- A box truck struck multiple pedestrians and crashed into a building in downtown Boston, capital city of the northeastern U.S. state of Massachusetts, on Tuesday afternoon.

Four people were hospitalized and another two were treated on scene, according to a post by Boston EMS on social media.

Right now, at least one person was in critical condition and three others were in stable condition, said Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox at a press conference.

Two other folks were impacted by the accident in some way, but they refused medical attention, according to Cox.

"Based on our records, the truck involved was out on rent to a commercial trucking company. We have no other information at this time," Penske said in a statement.

"Currently, a preliminary investigation indicates that this case seems to be more of a tragic accident than anything else. However, it's still under investigation," said Cox.  ■
