BRUSSELS, March 7 (Xinhua) -- An ad hoc delegation of the European Parliament packed up for Slovakia on Wednesday to look into the murder of Slovak investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee Martina Kusnirova.

In the following two days, the fact-finding delegation consisting of six Members of European Parliament (MEPs) is set to meet with big wigs of the country, as well as anti-corruption NGOs and journalists.

They will also head to Velka Maca, the village in the Western Slovakia where the journalist and his fiancee were murdered in February, followed by a press conference on Friday at the European Parliament's liaison office in Bratislava.

Base on the two-day probe, the delegation will draft a report and forward it to the European Parliament's Conference of Presidents, which is made up of President of the House and leaders of all political groups.

Each of the MEPs are from different political groups in the European Parliament and from Hungary, Poland, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, and Italy.

Kuciak, 27, was an investigative reporter for the Slovak news website Aktuality.sk and wrote about suspicions of major tax fraud. He was shot and killed along with his fiancee in his house in Velka Maca in late February. The case is under investigation.

In the wake of the murder, the European Parliament will debate the protection of journalists in Europe during its plenary session in Strasbourg, France, next week.
